I recently met an erstwhile client of mine and she said to me ‘You know I almost picked up the phone yesterday to call you and ask for a coaching session, I was in such a state.’
I listened intently and waited for her to tell me why she hadn’t and then she explained, ‘Well, then I remembered our last session and took a deep breath or two and sat down and wrote down everything that was troubling me and asked myself questions, about what was important to me, what were my underlying feelings and slowly my thoughts became clearer and I felt very peaceful and in control to tackle the situation.’ And tackle it with tact, she did!
I beamed with contentment. Isn’t it this, what every coach aims for? To make a client empowered, to make choices in small and big things that allow them to remain in balance and in control? To have a level of awareness that allows them to take a pause and apply a rational thought process and let go of unhelpful emotions?
I still smile when I think of this feedback from my client.
As a coach, what is your payoff from coaching?
